2010 Queensland Scale Model Championship - Competition Rules

1.The 15th annual Queensland Scale Model Championships will conducted in conjunction with the Queensland Model Hobbies Expo on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of August, 2010 at the Brisbane Table Tennis Centre, 86 Green Terrace Downey Park (Venue).  
2.The Queensland Scale Model Championship is open to all. The entrant need not be a member of a participating or any other scale model club. The is no limit to the number of models an entrant may enter in any category or class where eligible. No entrant will be permitted to judge their own entry.
3.All models must be the sole work of the entrant. Breaches of this rule will result in disqualification.
4.Scales given by the kit manufacturer are the scales recognised by Queensland Model Hobbies Expo Incorporated (QMHE) for entries where scale applies.
5.Pre-finished model kits from the manufacturer are ineligible to enter the competition in any class or category. 
6.It is recommended and preferred, that entrants pre register their entries. Entry forms are available from the QMHE website, www.qmhe.com.  The quickest and easiest method of pre registration for entrants is directly from the QMHE website. Alternatively entrants may mail or email their pre registered entry forms following the details below. 7.If there is any doubt as to which category and/or class a model should be entered in, the Chief Judge will determine the appropriate category and/or class for that model to be judged. This will be done in accordance with these rules and within the friendly spirit of the competition. The Chief Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
8.All entries must deliver their models and reference material for registration at the Brisbane Table Tennis Centre, 86 Green Terrace Downey Park  within the following time brackets; Friday 20th of August – between 6.00pm and 9.00pm.Saturday 21st of August – between 9.00am and 11.00am. Only by prior arrangement with Competition Secretary will entries be received outside these time brackets. To aid speed of registration, entrants who have not pre registered their entries are asked to have their forms completed in full before approaching a registration table.
9.Entry Fees for 2010 are; Pre Registered entries - $2.00 per entryNon Pre Registered entries - $ 2.50 per entry 1 - Free QMHE entry pass, redeemable SUNDAY only, for people submitting 5 of more entries to the competition
10.QMHE organisers reserve the right to expand or combine the categories and/or classes should the number of entries dictate
11.Models which have previously placed in QMHE are ineligible to enter. 
12. Entrants must, as a minimum supply the original kit instructions with their model for entry. Entrants are also encouraged to supply supporting reference material for use during judging. This is particularly important for entries in the SM/ENH, MOD & OPEN categories. The entrant may harm their chance of placing in the competition, if sufficient reference material is not supplied.   
13.The award ceremony will take place at approximately 3pm Sunday 22nd August 2010 at the venue. Entrants must collect their models following the presentation and before 5pm. Entries can only be removed from the competition area under the direct supervision of an Official Steward. Only by prior arrangement with the Competition Secretary, will an entrant be permitted to collect their entry(s) before the presentation ceremony.  
14.Whilst QMHE will undertake to provide all reasonable care, models are entered in the competition at the owner’s risk. QMHE accepts no responsibility and is not liable for loss or damage to models or reference material entered in the competition. Additionally QMHE is not responsible for models or reference material, including books, left at the venue at the conclusion of the competition. If the QMHE returns property to an entry, then the costs of such return will be borne by the entrant. 
15.Due to the family orientated nature of the QMHE, models, as gauged against general community standards of the day, may be deemed unsuitable for display at QMHE. At the Executive Committee’s discretion, models may be refused entry or removed from display.  Models which have been removed from or not permitted public display will still be eligible to enter the competition.
16.JUNIOR modellers must be 13 years or younger during 2010 
17.INTERMEDIATE modellers must be aged between 14 and 18 during 2010.
18.Junior and intermediate modellers may enter in the senior completion. 
19.SCRATCHBUILT models must be entered in the SCRATCHBUILT category, provided the model is at least 75 percent built from scratch. Plans and reference material must be supplied. The entrant may harm their chance of placing in the competition, if sufficient reference material is not supplied.   
20.ACTION FIGURES AND DIECAST MODELS entries must be modified by at least 30 percent from the manufacturer’s original model. Original source and other relevant reference material must be supplied to provide sufficient evidence of modification to the original model. The entrant may harm their chance of placing in the competition, if sufficient reference material is not supplied.   
21.SMALL DIORAMA: A scene that tells a story which includes figures, models and scenic effects. The shape of the base is open but the overall size of the SMALL DIORAMA must fit within the boundaries of a 250mm X 250mm square template. No part of the diorama may hang over the edge of the base. Bases as well as subject matter will be judged in this class. 
22.LARGE DIORAMA: A scene that tells a story, which includes figures, models and scenic effects. A LARGE DIORAMA will be one that does not meet the criteria for a SMALL DIORAMA, i.e. it is greater than 250mm x 250mm in overall size. Bases as well as subject matter will be judged in this category. 
23.VIGNETTES: A cameo of a story featuring 1 to 6 figures on a small base with simple scenic effects. It can include hand held or personal portable equipment, a house or large animal or small livestock. It can NOT include full buildings, large equipment, full vehicles, aircraft or ships. If the scenic effects dominate the figures the model may be classified as a DIORAMA. Bases as well as subject matter may be judged in this class. 
24.ENVIRONMENTAL BASES: will be allowed in all categories but will NOT be judged unless specifically provided for within the rules e.g. Vignettes, Small and Large Dioramas.  A base may be plain or simulate the natural surface on which the subject or prototype may be found. A single figure may be used for the purpose of the subject scale. More than one figure may be used provided they represent the subject’s crew (not service crew). These figures can be placed ON the model but will NOT be judged.  The Chief Judge, will at their discretion, move an entry to a class deemed more appropriate, should it be considered that the Environmental Base supplied dominates the model and or display. Alternatively, the Chief Judge may request the entrant remove the Environmental Base from display, allowing only the model entered to be displayed.
25.LADIES: Category open to women over 18 years. This is an open category and therefore all subjects, all kits and all scales will be accepted. 
26.REAL SPACE/EXPERIMENTAL: Any space/aerospace rockets, satellites, interplanetary exploration or space related experimental craft. Carrier vehicles may be included as part of the subject providing they include the payload. Ballistic weapon type rockets are not to be included in this category. 
27.WARGAMING: the following categories and classes apply for Wargamming figures and vehicles / equipment; Categories:  Warhammer Fantasy                      Lord of the Rings                              Warhammer 40k                      Vehicle / Equipment Classes:         Single Figure                       Squad   (Up to 6 figures)                       Dual (2 Figures)  
28.SINGLE MEDIA (SM): Entries in the Single Media (SM) class (formerly known as Out of Box – OOB), must meet the following criteria;  a.        A SINGLE MEDIA (SM) entry, is a model that has been built completely from a single media e.g. styrene, resin and white metal.  b.        The model must be built using those parts contained within a single kit and be built completely from that kit as per the kit instructions. c.        Multimedia type kits are not permitted entry in the SM category. For purpose of definition, a Multimedia kit is defined as a single kit which contains parts supplied by the Manufacturer, produced from a number of different materials which may be optional, highly detailed replacement parts or mandatory parts to complete the model.        Examples include, but are not limited to, basic styrene kits which have been sold by the manufacture with parts made from resin, metal or photo-etch.  Multimedia kits, built from the box maybe be entered in the MULTIMEDIA / ENHANCED (MM/ENH). d.        The use of kit supplied rubber tyres and tracks is permitted.    e.         Parts supplied within the kit which are not plastic but are used for their strengthening properties will be allowed – e.g. white metal undercarriage on medium to large aircraft made from styrene or where a metal chassis is supplied as standard for cars and armoured vehicles. f.         The modeller may NOT manufacture, replace or substitute any part, or cut or separate component parts. g.         Refining edges and drilling out of minor openings such as gun barrels and exhausts is allowed, provided NO cutting or joining is performed and no additional material is used including putty. h.         Simple tape harnesses and antennas may be fitted from non-commercial sources. i.         The model may be finished in alternative markings, decals or colour schemes. This includes the addition of replacement decals excluded from some kits by legislation, e.g. cigarette sponsorship and Nazi swastikas. Decorative foils may also be used.  j.         Filler or model putty may be used for filling joints, gaps and weathering features only. k.        Sprue or other materials may only be used if specified in the instructions. 
29.MULTIMEDIA / ENHANCED (MM/ENH)  The MULTIMEDIA / ENHANCED (MM/ENH) class is for entrants wishing to enter a Multimedia kit for competition. Additionally, the MM/ENH class applies to entries which have had simple replacement parts, either aftermarket or from a donor kit, applied to the model. Refer to the table below for eligibility in the MM/ENH class;

Alterations to kit partsAny kit part may be thinned or refined as long as its basic shape is unchanged. Parts may NOT be sectioned, cut open or repositioned to display interiors or to angle flying surfaces etc. Exhausts may be drilled out. Air inlets may be opened. Panel lines re-scribed after sanding. Wheels which steer may be turned to an angle. Tyres may be flattened. PLEASE NOTE: Cutting kit to fit photo etch NOT allowed.

Additions From any other source or any material. No other parts may be added.Seat belts and buckles. Antennas and aerials. Alternative wheels and/or tyres providing no body alterations are made to accommodate them.

30.MODIFIED (MOD): any model that has been extensively modified and does not conform to the criteria for the SINGLE MEDIA  or MULTIMEDIA / ENHANCED classes.  
31.OPEN combines the models from the SINGLE MEDIA, MULTIMEDIA /  ENHANCED and MODIFIED classes into OPEN class. 
32.Entrants should be mindful that all modellers share the same passion for the hobby, and QMHE is to be held in a healthy spirit of fun, friendship and celebration of the hobby. 
33.In the event of a dispute regarding interpretation or application of any of these rules, the decision of the Chief Judge is final and binding and no correspondence will entered into.
34.The perpetual awards of the Model of the Show, Modeller of the Show and the John Stockley Award are the property of the QMHE and must be returned to the committee prior to the event each year.
